Day 1 February 6 – Depart the USA
Your pilgrimage begins as you depart the USA on an overnight flight.
Day 2 February 7 – Arrive in Tel Aviv
Arrive in Tel Aviv and transfer to Netanya for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 February 8 – Nazareth & Cana
Continue to Nazareth, Jesus’ boyhood home. Stand atop the Mount of Precipice, where Jesus was rejected by the people with whom he had grown up. Visit the Basilica of the Annunciation, the House of the Holy Family, St. Joseph’s Workshop and St. Joseph’s Church. Explore Nazareth Village, a living presentation of the life, times, and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Visit the Franciscan Wedding Chapel in Cana, site of Jesus’ first miracle.
Day 4 February 9 – Galilee
In Magdala, once home to Mary Magdalene, visit a recently discovered first-century synagogue. On the Mount of Beatitudes, contemplate the “Sermon on the Mount”. Visit the Church of the Loaves and Fish in Tabgha, the traditional location of the feeding of the 5,000. As you pray in the Chapel of the Primacy, remember how Peter professed his devotion to the risen Christ three times. Enjoy beautiful Capernaum, the center of Jesus’ ministry, and visit the synagogue located on the site where Jesus taught.
Day 5 February 10 – Galilee
Begin the day with a boat trip on the Sea of Galilee. View and learn about the “ancient boat,” a rare and excellent example of the kind of boat in which Jesus would have sailed. Visit Gideon’s Spring at Ein Harod. Travel the ancient caravan route through the Jezreel Valley to Tel Megiddo, an exciting archaeological dig with its layers of twenty different cities built on top of each other. End today with a visit to Kibbutz Lavi, where you will participate in Shabbat service and a meal.
Day 6 February 11 – Masada
Visit the baptismal site of Qasr el Yahud, where tradition says Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. Ascend by cable car to Masada, Herod’s legendary mountaintop fortress, which became the last desperate stronghold of the Jewish Zealots against the Romans. Continue to Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in 1947. Enjoy an opportunity to take a dip in the mineral-laden waters of the Dead Sea. Travel through the Judean wilderness en route to Bethlehem.
Day 7 February 12 – Bethlehem
In Bethlehem, visit the cave revered as Jesus’ birthplace and see the Church of the Nativity constructed over the site. Visit St. Catherine of Alexandria’s Church, site of Jesus’ apparition to St Catherine. Spend time to shop at the Nissan Bros Olive Wood shop. You will visit the village of Lazarus and Martha, Bethany, to view the Tomb of Lazarus and a local Mosque.
Day 8 February 13 – Mount of Olives
Be inspired by the breathtaking beauty of Jerusalem (“the Golden City”) as you stand on the Mount of Olives, the place from which Jesus ascended into heaven forty days after His resurrection. At Dominus Flevit church, visit the place where Jesus mourned for Jerusalem. Visit both the Church of All Nations and the private garden area across the road for a time of contemplation in the Garden of Gethsemane. Visit St. Peter in Gallicantu, the home of the High Priest Caiaphas, where Jesus was held after His arrest. Conclude your day at the Church of the Dormition. On Mount Zion, view the site of King David’s Tomb.
Day 9 February 14 – Jerusalem
Explore the Jerusalem Archaeological Park/Davidson Center and the Southern Wall Excavations, including the Teaching Steps and the Western Wall. Wander the streets of the Jewish Quarter and explore the Cardo, the ancient marketplace still alive with shops. Enjoy time on your own to relax or explore the Old City. Meet with members of the Rossing Center to discuss how Jews, Muslims and Christians interact in Israel.
Day 10 February 15 – Jerusalem
This morning, conditions permitting, stand on the Temple Mount where the Jewish Temple once stood, and the Dome of the Rock now stands. View the Pool of Bethesda, where Jesus performed the Sabbath miracle. Sing a hymn in the Church of St. Anne, renowned for its beautiful acoustics. At Herod’s Antonia Fortress, see where Jesus was brought before Pontius Pilate. Walk the Via Dolorosa, “the Way of the Cross.” Visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, remembering the Lord’s sacrifice that took place at this site.
Day 11 February 16 – Jerusalem
This morning, visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Travel to Ein Karem, birthplace of John the Baptist and where Mary visited Elisabeth. Enjoy time on your own to relax or explore the Old City. Options include a visit to the Israel Museum, which houses a First Century Model of the City of Jerusalem from the time of Jesus. See the Shrine of the Book, where the Book of Isaiah, discovered among the Dead Sea Scrolls, is displayed and Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Memorial. Prepare for your flights home.
