Daily Itinerary

Day 1 Depart USA

Depart on your international overnight flight.

Day 2 Arrive in Glasgow / Lourdes Grotto and All Saint’s Reliquary Chapel – Carfin Scotland.

This morning you will be greeted at the airport and travel to Carfin to the Lourdes Grotto of St. Francis Xavier Parish. Here you’ll see the recreation of the French grotto. Nearby is the All Saints Reliquary Chapel, home to relics of over 735 saints. Continue on to Edinburgh for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 Dunfermline Abbey and St. Andrews

Cross the Firth of Forth to Fife. Stop at Dunfermline Abbey, where St. Margaret and Robert the Bruce are buried. Continue past picturesque fishing villages to St. Andrew’s, the ancient ecclesiastical capital of Scotland. Visit the ruins of St. Andrew’s Cathedral and the nearby castle with its notorious “Bottle Dungeon.” Take a look at the “Old Course” at St. Andrew’s, renowned as the home of golf! Return to Edinburgh for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 Edinburgh Castle / Holyrood House / Rosslyn Chapel

Descend the Royal Mile to the Palace of Holyrood, home of the last Catholic monarch of Scotland, Mary. You’ll tour Edinburgh Castle, where James VI, son of Mary, Queen of the Scots, was born. Visit Rosslyn Chapel, recently refurbished in light of its fame through “The DaVinci Code.” It served for centuries as a chapel for the Catholic Sinclair family. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 Lindisfarne

Experience the Holy Isle of Lindisfarne. Once an active abbey that was responsible for the Christianization of northern England, the monastery fell on hard times through Viking raids and the Reformation efforts of Henry VIII. Explore Lindisfarne Castle and Lindisfarne Priory. (Arrival and departure dependent on tide schedule). Enjoy a Mass here before checking into your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 Durham

Today you’ll tour Durham Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral Church of Christ, Blessed Mary the Virgin and St. Cuthbert of Durham. One of the finest examples of Norman architecture, its treasure’s include the Relics of St. Cuthbert, the head of St. Oswald and the remains of the Venerable Bede. Three copies of the Magna Carta are in its library. Continue on to the walled old city of York for dinner and overnight.

Day 7 York

Enjoy time in the inner walled city of York. Learn more about St. Wilfred and St. Chad at York Minster, one of the largest Gothic churches in Europe. Mass is at St. Margaret Clitheroe Church. Finish the day in Manchester for dinner and overnight.

Day 8 Return to USA or Join the England Pilgrimage

Transfer to the airport for your return flight, or meet up with the England Pilgrimage Tour to continue your journey toward Canterbury!

Sept. 17 – Lincoln / Walsingham
This morning you will travel to Lincoln, where Pilgrims were held in custody prior to their sailing to the colonies. You’ll visit St. Mary’s Cathedral here to remember St. Hugh. Continue on to Walsingham and the Slipper Chapel for Mass. Slipper Chapel was once second only to Canterbury in importance for English Pilgrimage. The structure originated in 1340, but was revived from neglect in the 1900’s. Wander the Chapel of the Holy Spirit and the Cloister Gardens. Check into your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Sept. 18 – Cambridge
Enjoy an in‐depth walking tour of Ely cathedral. The present structure was begun in the late 11th Century during the reign of William the Conqueror and serves the present community as the "ship of the Fens", towering above the surrounding flatlands. Then walk the grounds of the various Cambridge Colleges, where the likes of C. S. Lewis, A. A. Milne, and St. John Fisher lived and worked. Finish the day in Maidstone for dinner and overnight.
Sept. 19 – Aylesford / Canterbury
This morning travel to Aylesford and celebrate Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The Virgin Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock here in 1251. Continue on to Canterbury Cathedral. Begun in 597, the church was the leader of the Catholic worship in England for centuries. St. Thomas Becket was murdered here. The subsequent pilgrimages here inspired Chaucer to write his “Canterbury Tales”. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Sept. 20 – London – Driving tour
This morning, enjoy a panoramic driving tour of the city, with a visit to Westminster Abbey. Drive past Parliament and Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, Trafalgar Square, and the Tower of London. Visit the Tyburn Benedictine Convent and celebrate Mass at Our Lady of Assumption and St. Gregory on Warwick St. Check into your hotel. Dinner on own tonight.
Sept. 21 – Oxford
This morning we’ll journey north to Oxford for a campus tour that will include places connected to the Venerable John Newman, such as Oriel College, St. Clements Church, St. Mary’s, and Littlemore (Blessed Dominic Barberi) Celebrate Mass at one of the churches here. Also stop at the
Oxford Oratory, before returning to London for overnight. Dinner on own.
Sept. 22 – London Tower morning / Afternoon on own
This morning enjoy a tour of London Tower, learning about the many saints that were incarcerated or martyred here. Enjoy the afternoon on your own to explore and shop in London. Return to your hotel. Dinner on own.
Sept. 23 – Return to USA
Transfer to the airport for your return flight. Dinners are not included in London
